Damage
Introduction
This sections compares the damage that two of the melee-based character classes, the barbarian and the warrior, can inflict using the most damaging weapons available in the V&K Hellfire mod. It serves to outline the differences between the classes themselves as well as identifying the most damaging of weapons that these character classes have to choose from.
A quite extraordinary analysis of average damage by weapon and class is viewable at The Caverns of Ice, although it does not cover V&K Hellfire specifically.
1. Damage Formula
The following damage formulae, as documented in Jarulf's Guide to Diablo and Hellfire, are used in these calculations:
Barbarian
Axe or club, with shield: (Str * Clvl / 75) + Weapon damage
Axe or club, without shield: (Str * Clvl / 75) + (Vit * Clvl / 100) + Weapon damage
Other weapons, with shield: (Str * Clvl / 100) + Weapon damage
Other weapons, without shield: (Str * Clvl / 100) + (Vit * Clvl / 100) + Weapon damage
Warrior
All weapons: (Str * Clvl / 100) + Weapon damage
2. Weapons
- BloodSlayer (War Axe): 25-40 base damage, +100% damage

- King's Bastard Sword: 6-15 base damage, +175% damage from King's prefix

- Merciless War Axe: 25-40 base damage, +200% damage from King's prefix
- The Warbringer (Great Axe): unusual item damage (50 - 150)

3. Average and Maximum Damage
These calculations assume maxed base statistics with no statistic-modifying equipment. Any statistics modifiers on the weapons themselves are disregarded. Warrior or Barbarian critical hit damage is also disregarded. To factor this in, simply double the listed damage.
It is also assumed that the weapons used have the best possible modifiers for weapons of their class. For example, King's weapons are assumed to offer the maximum +175% damage bonus available for King's items.
