Beast Basics

About the game

If you play V&K Hellfire, there are some basic facts you should be aware of:

Speed.
The overall speed has increased. The new monsters are in general faster than the old ones. A Mithril Demon might look similar to a Crypt Demon, but he won't move as slow, for example. Also, some old things have been sped up. Azure Drakes are faster than they used to be, Golems move and attack faster, etc.
Power.
You'll meet tougher opponents than ever before in Diablo or Hellfire. To make up for this, though, you'll also find items which are more powerful than those of the regular game.
Don't judge a book by its cover, or a monster by its looks in this case.
If you spotted a Drake in the normal game, you could expect a certain behaviour from it. This has changed with the V&K patch. A Fallen Angel might look like a Guardian, but it won't act like one.
Strange occurences and unbeatable odds in single-player mode (SP).
Varaya stated time and again that the patch is for MP only. You're not supposed to play SP. If you do, it's at your own risk. We can't guarantee that any information shown here applies to SP, so don't blame us ;o).
Finally: RTFM.
Read the readme file that comes with the patch as well as the info on V&K's site.

About this guide

Short Forms used in this guide:

lvl = level
clvl = character level
dlvl = dungeon level
slvl = spell level
A = Abyss (the former Demon Crypt)
MFL = Magic, Fire, Lightning
boss = unique monster

We are not V&K, so don't expect answers to everything from us. We are not that different from you, we're just that little bit more crazy that makes people work on a Guide and a website for a game.
;o)
