The Quests
One feature that distinguishes Diablo from the hack-and-slash style of many fantasy games is its system of quests. Periodically, you will run across situations which can benefit from your intervention. According to Blizzard, Diablo will have a very flexible system of quests. There will be diversionary sub-quests, so that you can take a break from a larger quest. Potentially, there could be a complex interplay of quests that relate to each other. We will just have to wait and see how it turns out.
So far, in the pre-release demo, the only quest available is the The Butcher Quest.
In front of the abandoned church, you run across a wounded townsman, likely a good neighbor of yours in easier times. His wounds are severe and he can barely move. When you move to help him, he manages to gasp out this message:
|
Please help....! I barely escaped from ....... The Butcher...! He killed .... my wife ... my children! I beg of you ...... in the name of God ......... avenge them......... |
After that, his eyes slowly close and he sinks back on the ground. Before you can even bend over to touch him, his breathing has stopped. You bite your lip and hold back the tears. You know what you must do; you must seek out and destroy the evil Butcher, before he can kill any more of your friends.
