I am a lazybones.
Warning! The information in these pages is grossly out of date. In fact,
some of it is still from the pre-release demo. Some of it may still be
pertinent, and you may feel free to browse at your leisure. However, be
wary of beleiving wholeheartedly in it, for ancient maps may lead you to
your peril.
First, a few words of introduction. Diablo is an amazing game made by
Blizzard Entertainment. It is an
action role-playing game, set in a world of Gothic horror. Many of its
features spring from the
Rogue-like games genre.
This game is a truly amazing swords-and-sorcery experience.
As it is now, most of the pages are complete, for the demo version. There are
a few pages which are still nonexistent, most notably the spells page. I have
deliberately left this one for last, since so many of the
other Diablo pages have excellent spell
sections.
With the release of Diablo, a lot of the information in these pages (all of
which was gathered from the pre-release demo), may be incorrect. I have been
able to gather some (not a whole lot) of information from the full version, and
will be periodically updating the pages once again. As I have decided to stop
using Windows 95 for a while, most new
information will be from outside sources. Keep it coming, and I'll keep
updating.
Features
Some of Diablo's features are as follows:
- seamless high-resolution graphics (640x480) (requires Microsoft DirectX)
- quality sound and music, for total immersion
- carefully crafted images and animations, for a stunning sense of realism
- randomly generated dungeons
- no two games are ever the same
- a huge number of nefarious creatures
to slay
- a wide variety of items, magical and mundane
- an extensive list of magical spells to use
- three different character classes
to choose from: warrior, rogue, and mage.
- multiple quests and sub-quests to embark
upon
- 4-player network play, for countless hours of enjoyment
- built-in battle.net support, for easy
internet play
Credits/Thanks
Much of the information in these pages has come from direct personal experience
playing the game. All of the pictures have been taken from screenshots by
myself, and should probably be considered property of Blizzard software,
since it's their game. The buttons I made with NeoPaint (see below.) Wherever
information has been provided by others, I have noted it close to the
reference. I will also briefly list them here.
- Anise Sorghum provided information on the Broadsword.
- zWolfMan provided
information on the Broad Axe, Soft Studded Leather, and Scrolls of Stone
Curse. Check out his webpage, by the way; it's pretty cool.
- Todd Byrd mailed me some information clarifying the effects of the Mystic
Shrine
- Matt Vukovitch generously offered to send me a pic for the helm, which
I had, but had not yet uploaded.
- Skip Tracer and Jesse Thompson have provided clarification of the
Fascinating Shrine.
- Roland Michener, Andrew Gove, and Felipe Xacur Mena sent information
regarding the effects of Hidden Shrines.
- Dave Beckler told me about the Holy Shrine, which I had just recently
discovered for myself :).
- Boneripper's blurb is a composite of quotes sent in by Martin L. Miles and
Krago.
- Draco provided the information regarding the Magical Shrine.
- Mike Gallagher has told me some stuff about the full version, which I have
not yet incorporated in the pages.
- Evan G. also sent information about full version items, which I will
save for one massive update once I have played the game myself a while.
- Information about the Eldritch Shrine was given by John Jewtuch.
- I got a ton of information about various shrines from the following
people: Bill MacPhee, brianmer, Gary Jacobson, Oliver K., Pyro, and Scott
Hamm.
- Ryan myers gave me the specs on the Black Razor. He also helped my
spirits out after I had received a couple particularly nasty emails,
simply by being friendly and congenial in his mail.
- Jonas Johansson gave information on the Glimmering Shrine and clarified the
effects of the Goat Shrine.
- I have probably also subconsciously included information that I picked up
from reading other Diablo pages.. Go to my links section and check them
all out!
- If you gave me information, but I have inadvertently forgotten to include
you here, please don't hesitate to send me
mail, and I will add your name.
Now here are all the other credits; thanks to people and organizations without
whom I could not have made this site what it is.
- First of all, I would like to thank
Darious and
Rob Scanlon for
putting up their Diablo pages, which inspired me to create mine. Thanks to
them also for any information that I have borrowed from their sites.
In addition, thanks, Rob, for the tip about screen captures.
- thanks to Penguin
for some suggestions on webpage design
- thanks to
Shaun
Formo for helpful information on transparent GIF's, as well as having a
very good Diablo page.
- thanks to
David Lacey, president
of Psycho Interactive, for pointing out several flaws in my HTML.
- thanks to Neopaint, for being a great shareware paint program.
- thanks to Gifcon, the GIF Construction Set, for allowing me to create
transparent GIFs.
- Finally, a thousand thank-you's go to
Blizzard Entertainment for creating such
a stunning game.
